When Google chose to open a new office in Pittsburgh, they selected the top-floor penthouse of a 100-year-old former Nabisco cookie factory—a unique, historic space full of character and challenges.
With 150 employees and a workspace designed to foster creativity—including a hammock lounge, indoor bamboo garden, and an outdoor cafeteria patio with skyline views—Google needed to ensure the safety and security of its people and property without compromising the architectural integrity or aesthetic of the building.
The challenge was to outfit a multi-story office in a century-old industrial structure with modern commercial door hardware—while maintaining the charm and openness that make the space special.
