Access Control at Tesla Gigafactory – Austin, TX
Tesla
- Austin, Texas
Project Summary
Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas is one of the largest and most ambitious industrial facilities ever built in the United States. Spanning over 10 million square feet—roughly the size of 100 football fields—this nearly mile-long manufacturing plant required a massive, future-proof access control system capable of securing a complex, high-traffic environment with thousands of employees and contractors.
System Highlights
-
From 2020 to 2022, South Bay Hardware played a key role in securing Tesla’s Gigafactory during its initial construction phase. In close collaboration with Walker Security, we provided:
- Access Control Consulting: System design, hardware recommendations, and compliance support tailored to Tesla’s unique industrial environment
- Hardware Supply & Logistics: Delivery and coordination of electronic access control hardware for over 500 openings, ensuring security from perimeter entrances to interior zones
- Ongoing Support for Phase 2: Advisory support for upcoming expansions, ensuring scalability and system continuity
- This effort required expert coordination, future-focused system design, and a commitment to quality that matched Tesla’s own vision of innovation.
-
Tesla’s Austin Gigafactory now stands as the largest manufacturing facility in the U.S. by floor area, with a robust and scalable security infrastructure built to evolve alongside the plant’s rapid expansion.
- 500+ secured openings
- Seamless integration with Tesla’s operational systems
- Prepared for Phase 2 expansion and future scalability
- Collaboration across industry leaders to meet high-performance standards
